      Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

You will be able to practice and train in dynamic role-playing situations that mirror real life and that will help you in your role as a healthcare provider. You will be introduced to a wide range of life-threatening  scenarios involving pediatric patients experiencing respiratory emergencies, shock and cardiopulmonary arrest in which you apply a systematic approach that includes the evaluate-identify-intervene sequence. The goal is to strengthen your ability to recognize, intervene, communicate and work effectively as a critical member of a healthcare team.

Two options: PALS Provider or PALS Renewal

PALS Provider: for healthcare providers who are new to HSF's PALS course or who don't use their life-saving skills often. Blended Learning: mix of self-paced, online learning and 9 hours in-classroom. Traditional Learning: 14 hours in classroom

PALS Renewal: for healthcare providers who are confident in their PALS skills and use them regularly, and who require limited practice to renew their credentials. Blended Learning: mix of self-paced, online learning and 5 hours in-classroom. Traditional Learning: 6-8 hours in-classroom

Paediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)

The 8-hour PEARS Course prepares healthcare providers with foundational skills to assess, recognize, and participate in the initial management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in the paediatric patient.  Active case-based instruction will be used to teach students to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes after response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider.

PEARS is for healthcare professionals who might encounter paediatric emergency situations during their work, including Physicians and Nurses not specializing in pediatrics or outside critical-care areas, or outpatient clinics. If you work in a remote, rural, sub-urban or urban emergency department or clinic with unstable paediatric patients and want to develop more confidence in caring for these patients, this course is for you.

This course has been developed after receiving numerous requests from staff in a wide-variety of emergency settings who wanted to be more confident in managing the trauma patient. The focus of this course will be on establishing a systematic and rapid assessment, recognizing stable vs. unstable trauma, and stabilizing of the patient presenting with airway and respiratory compromise, shock, and neurological trauma. Class size is restricted to allow opportunities for mock scenarios and demonstration on some of the emergency procedures done for patient stabilization.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)The first few minutes of trauma care are critical to achieving better patient outcomes.
